Hello,

Sorry for this message in English, my written German is not so good.
I was wandering if somebody has some experiences with battery problems for a DRZ400S. I have bought mine in 2002 (model 2001) and last week I bought my third battery. The first time the battery was replaced by my dealer, who seemed to be sure that there was no other problem. On the site of Yuasa, you can read that the battery is draining due to the computer, they suggest to charge the battery after 2 weeks of non activity. In my case, it's often that my bike is not started for more than 2 weeks. Does somebody had the same experience or should I suspect that the battery is not charged ?

Thx for your reply,

Duke

Hi Duke
Batteries in Offroad-maschines have a really hard life - and a short life time. But the DRZ-S is'nt a 100% Race-Maschine (like the EXC's) and the battery is very well done and big enough.
If your E-Start work just 1 year, you are a proffessional Hardcore-Rider - or your machine has a problem!

The question is: what happen exacly? If the battery is "broken" inside, no thing to do. But it seems to be more a problem of the charger. DZR-Batteries are so big, that the E-Start shoud work also after a few month non use. It's a quality, because the DRZ's dont have a Kick-Start.

I think you shoud controle all the electric of your bike! It take some time and a lot of work, but even better as all year a new battery without knowing the reason. Maybe next time the thing stopps working after some days?

Marc

Hi Duke, it could be the regulator/rectifier. This can be easyly checked from your suzuki dealer or if you are experienced with electrics with your multimeter. If this unit charges your battery with high voltage (if this is the case, the battery will be warm to hot if you drive with high rpm's), the battery will collapse. Often this goes hand in hand with frequently defect front- and tailligt bulbs. Best regards, Andreas
