I thought the DRZ "SM" or "S" have the same headlight for Europe and US.
The "E" Modell arrives in Europe with the US headlight. It gets here for homologation a CE aftermarkt headlight (for example Acerbis DHH for modellyear 2004, 2005).
You may want to buy a used "S" or "SM" headlight, since many riders mount aftermarkt ones. There are some for sale on ebay.de or here in the forum, now and then. The glass in robust and won't be damaged in general. Buying used, you should also save on customs taxes and shipping.
Hi Fransk,
Headlight for US and EU is different. The US model does not have the hole for the parking lamp. Also, there are at least two (EU and UK???), maybe more different lens/reflectors in EU that I know about. Finally, there are two different mounting systems used, the first from 1999 through 2002 and then 2003 to present. The earlier design has a better adjustment system and is preferable. I am also pretty sure a DE market lens must have the TUV approval marking on it, but a certificate of approval might be all there is. To be sure, I want to try to get it from a dealer in Germany.
